GARDEN IRRIGATION SYSTEMS

Garden Irrigation

This system is used for irrigating flower borders, specific areas of the garden or even the whole of your garden. With the addition of a timer to your system the watering can be done automatically. The polypipe is laid in areas to which the water supply is needed with the end seal capping off the end of the pipe giving a good drain off place to protect from winter frosts. Elbows & tees are simply pushed onto the pipe to branch off or go around corners, a hole is punched into the pipe where you wish the micro spike to go and then a spray head can be screwed into the spike to suit the spray.

Shown here is a xeri spray which comes in three radius: 90 degrees, 180 degrees and 360 degrees. These can be set on a riser stake which can be cut to your preferred height and then the nozzle just screws in, to give up to four meters of coverage. There are also two other sprays useful for spraying below foliage, the xeri 360 degree bubbler on mini stake which gives a coarse spray with 0-46cm coverage or the xeri spray 360 degree true spray on mini stake which has a very fine spray and gives a 0-2 metre coverage.

Hanging Baskets & Planters

Hanging baskets & planters require more precision watering to conserve water rather than watering the garden path! This is done by using micro bore pipes which makes it easier to hide and more pliable to work with. The pipe fits onto a 5 outlet manifold that is fitted to the tap. Each outlet can supply enough water on average for ten pots/hanging baskets. The number of drippers per pot depends on size: 15cm or less = 1 dripper; 20cm-40cm = 2 drippers; 40cm-70cm = 4 drippers. The drippers have regulators inside to make sure they give a constant 2 litres per hour in line taps may be added so that each individual pots watering may be turned off. Pipe work is easily fixed to the wall using pipe clips, the drippers are pegged in the ground to secure them. It is also possible to add a feeding system into the pipeline to give the plants their nutrients needed to keep them in top condition throughout the season. This works very well on the dripper system and because you can control the flow of water you don’t waste any, saving water, time and effort.

Greenhouses & Growbags

Greenhouses and grow bags may be watered using the same pipeline as your garden if you have the water pressure. If not, it is still possible by laying another pipe and with your timer you have solenoid valves that will automatically change pipes. Upside-down sprinklers and misters water your greenhouse by the pipe being fixed to the ridge peak of the roof making sure that the whole of the greenhouse gets watered. For more precise watering of your greenhouse, a dripper system can be used instead of, or in conjunction with, your misting system. [See Hanging Baskets & Planters]

Larger Garden Watering

For medium to large gardens, timers and solenoid valves are needed to enable switching of water from one length of pipe to another whether it is powering small sprinklers or the larger popups. Popups are designed to water the whole of the garden. When water pressure reaches the popup, the head of the popup comes up out of the lawn. The radius of these nozzles is reached by water pressure and nozzle size. The arc sprayed is adjustable from 25 degrees to 360 degrees depending on popup type. On some very large gardens it is sometimes necessary to tap feed a large water tank then pump the water from it around the system, still using solenoid valves to open the different supply pipes around the garden. Pumps and timers are available in different sizes depending on your needs. The water tanks are dark green to blend in with the foliage of your garden. Rain sensors and moisture sensors are available for these systems, which in the case of rain sensors tell the timer that it is raining and not to bother to switch on for that particular watering session. The moisture sensor tells the timer that the soil is moist enough and not to bother to come on, hence both saving water when it is not needed at that particular time. These systems also power micro drip and sprinkler systems as well as popups.
